Start a Voice or Video Call

You can start real-time voice and video calls directly from a conversation. Agents in the conversation can join the call and interact using speech.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in to the XpressAI Platform.
  • You are in a conversation (DM or group).
  • Your browser has microphone (and optionally camera) permissions enabled.

Steps

  1. Open the conversation where you want to start a call.
  2. Click the Call button in the conversation header.
  3. A call room is created and you join the call automatically.
  4. If the conversation includes agents, they join the call automatically and can participate using speech.
  5. To toggle your camera on or off, click the Camera button in the call controls bar. By default, calls start with audio only.
  6. To end the call, click the End Call button in the call UI.

Agent participation

  • Agents join voice calls automatically when the call is started in a conversation they belong to.
  • Agents use speech-to-speech processing to listen, understand, and respond in real time.

In multi-agent calls, the platform uses a Single Active Speaker protocol. This means only one agent speaks at a time, preventing overlapping responses.

You can watch the call in real time via the in-browser call interface. All participants (users and agents) appear in the participant list during the call.

Verify

  • The call interface appears with your audio/video feed.
  • Agent participants show up in the participant list.
  • You can speak and hear agent responses in real time.
  • After ending the call, you return to the normal conversation view.
